But MIDI isn't one of them, unless something's really wrong with the system. Most of the "latency" issues you'll face when setting up your system will center around how fast your computer processor is, how much RAM you have, how optimized your system is, how many instruments and tracks you're trying to record/play back simultaneously, and a few other issues. That's virtually instantaneous compared to the latency in the audio stream. You'll hit a key on the MIDI controller, and that will be sent via USB to the DAW. For all intents and purposes, there will be no "MIDI latency". This is the time it takes for the instrument in your DAW (say, Kontakt) to generate the sound, send it to the Focusrite and have that convert it to analog audio for you to hear. I am currently looking to buy a new midi keyboard but it is a new thing for me and I wanted to ask if there was any noticeable latency using a midi keyboard with my kind of setup nowadays? If you're just using a MIDI controller (not a traditional "keyboard"/synth) with your laptop or desktop, then what you're really concerned about is latency in the audio stream. I use a mac with a Focusrite Clarett which has thunderbolt connectivity so it is pretty fast.
